Dordrecht, 11 June, 2006 - The results of our previous motor test were blurred, because we think the epoxy resin used in the grains was expired. So this test is a rerun of CMT0601, but with new epoxy resin, instead of the expired epoxy resin. The throat was again 11.5mm and we used the new safety mechanism with a brass membrane.
The weather was very good this Sunday and it was very quite that day. All preparations went very smoothly and it was soon time to test. First their was a short interruption, which had something to do with football. The test went very well, although it seemed the motor burned very long. The results proved this too and showed the pressure was lower than anticipated. We speculate we have mesa or plateau behaviour with our propellant. Mesa behaviour is a fall back in pressure, compared to a motor with a bigger throat. With plateau behaviour the level the pressure remains more or less the same for a series of successive smaller throats. Both can rise in pressure with even smaller throats. Our next test is going to be with a smaller throat of 11mm, to test this assumption.
